Journalist José Bernardes hosts our weekly English-language show featuring the latest news and fun facts about Brazil - Screen capture/Brasil de Fato

This week, in What´s Happening in Brazil, we take an in depth look at the Pantanal region, one of the most important ecosystems in the country, that is currently experiencing unprecedented levels of destruction due to wildfires. Many of these fires are set on purpose in order to clear land for cattle pastures. In the context of the pandemic, oversight is practically nonexistent and the land, as well as its traditional inhabitants are suffering the consequences.

Our Story of the Week segment, showcases a solidarity based project that is assisting those most in need during the pandemic with their basic necessities. The combined effort bringing together different social movements is gaining traction in Brazil’s largest city and helping the most vulnerable within society.

In our Culture Talk section, you will be introduced to the a festival that though mainly occurring in the north and northeast of the country, is known all over the land as part of Brazil’s cultural heritage. With strong African and indigenous influences, the Bumba Meu Boi festival will give you glimpse of Brazil’s rich and diverse culture.

Finally, to wrap things up, we end the show with great music and delicious flavors hailing from our country. Enjoy!
