On Thursday (6), China said it was against any foreign interference or attempted intimidation targeting Venezuela. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the statements during a visit by Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil to Beijing.

"We will firmly oppose any foreign interference or intimidating behavior against Venezuela. Beijing supports Caracas' efforts to safeguard its national sovereignty and dignity, as well as to follow a development approach that suits its national conditions,” said the Chinese foreign minister.

Gil visited China to monitor the progress of bilateral agreements signed in September 2023 between the two countries on economy, health, mining and electricity. On that occasion, Venezuela and China sealed 31 agreements, conventions and memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and announced the promotion of the relationship between the two countries to a “Strategic Partnership under All Conditions," the second highest level of Chinese foreign relations.

Strategic partnerships are one of the main features of China's foreign policy and refer to the extent and level of commitment states make to each other.

According to Yván Gil, the two countries have maintained a relationship of “constant development, and it has become a model for relations between countries." The Chinese foreign minister said the agreements signed last year had made the ties between the countries “clearer and with new driving forces”. He called Venezuela a “good friend, partner and comrade” and said that Venezuelans and Chinese are building “unbreakable bonds” in a long-term relationship.

The meeting also took place on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Venezuela and China. The date will be celebrated on July 28. At the opening ceremony, the two representatives inaugurated Simon Bolivar Square at the Venezuelan embassy in China.

"Venezuela is one of China's best partners in Latin America. Venezuela has always firmly adhered to the One China principle and has provided firm support to China on issues related to its fundamental interests, such as sovereignty and territorial integrity,” said the Venezuelan Foreign Minister.

In May, the vice minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC), Chen Zhou, went to Caracas for a meeting with President Nicolás Maduro. On that occasion, the Venezuelan president said he wanted to strengthen the work between the CPC and the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
