The judgment of the complaints against another 250 coup plotters accused of participating in the January 8 terrorist acts in Brazil, may be concluded this Monday (8), by the Federal Supreme Court (STF), which should make them defendants.
Last Sunday (7), the virtual plenary of the Brazilian Supreme Court already indicated the formation of a majority of judges understanding the need for the coup plotters to respond to criminal actions, with six votes in favor and only Judge André Mendonça against the decision.
Among those in favor, the rapporteur Alexandre de Moraes, Dias Toffoli, Carmen Lúcia, Rosa Weber, Edson Fachin and Gilmar Mendes have already voted. Since April 10 of this year, the Supreme Court has been working with the seat of former minister Ricardo Lewandowski vacant.
In all, 1,390 people were denounced by the Attorney General's Office. In the first batch, the Supreme Court made 100 people accused of coup acts become defendants. In the second list, another 200 had the same fate.
On January 8 of this year, supporters of the former President Bolsonaro invaded and destroyed the palaces of the Three Powers, destroying the buildings of the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court, National Congress and Planalto Palace, with the aim of trying to strike a coup in the country.
Bolsonarism under investigation
Also this Monday, the former Minister of Justice and Public Security in the government of former President Jair Bolsonaro (Liberal Party), Anderson Torres, will give testimony to the Federal Police, at the Operational Aviation Battalion of the Military Police of the Federal District, where he is in prison, accused of omission during the January 8 coup attempt.
The testimony will be provided within the scope of the investigation about the Brazilian Federal Highway Police performance in the second round of the 2022 elections, when agents of the corporation were caught slowing down the movement of voters in regions where President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (Workers' Party) had more voters than Bolsonaro.
In January this year, the Ministry of Justice delivered a report to the Comptroller General of Brazil (CGU) showing that the Federal Highway Police inspected 2,185 buses in the Northeast, where Lula was the favorite, against 571 in the Southeast, between October 28 and 30, the day before and the actual day of the second round of the 2022 elections.
